Role Overview

A structured two-year Internship Programme within the Investments and Post-Investment functions, designed to provide comprehensive exposure to the investment lifecycle, from deal origination and evaluation through to portfolio management and value creation. The programme offers a unique opportunity to develop an understanding of the entrepreneurial journey across the various stages of business development, from ideation, proof of concept, and market validation to commercialisation, revenue traction, scaling and growth.

Through hands-on experience in investment analysis, financial modelling, market research, portfolio performance monitoring, and strategic value creation initiatives, you will develop both technical and commercial acumen. Working alongside experienced investment and post-investment professionals, you will contribute to informed investment decision-making, the sustainable growth of portfolio companies and the achievement of the organisation's financial and developmental impact objectives.

Key Responsibilities     

• Analyse financial statements, assess business performance, and develop financial models to support investment evaluation, portfolio monitoring, and strategic decision-making.
• Conduct industry, market, and company research to inform investment decisions, identify growth opportunities, and support value creation initiatives across the portfolio.
• Participate in all stages of the investment lifecycle, from deal origination, evaluation, and execution through to post-investment management, portfolio value creation, and exits.
• Support investment negotiations, due diligence processes, and the assessment of investment opportunities in alignment with the organisation's investment and impact mandate.
• Assist in monitoring portfolio company performance, including the analysis of financial, operational, and impact metrics, identification of emerging risks, and tracking of key performance indicators.
• Support the development and implementation of post-investment value creation initiatives aimed at accelerating portfolio company growth, improving operational efficiency, strengthening governance, and enhancing investment outcomes.
• Contribute to portfolio reporting, data collection, and analysis, including the preparation of portfolio performance dashboards, management reports, and investment committee updates.
• Assist in assessing portfolio companies' funding requirements, investment readiness, and opportunities for follow-on funding and strategic partnerships.
• Support the preparation of investment memos, briefing papers, portfolio performance reports, presentations, and other documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
• Engage with investment teams, portfolio companies, and external partners to support the execution of investment and post-investment activities.
• Contribute to cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives that advance the organisation's investment objectives, portfolio performance, and broader developmental impact.

Requirements

Qualifications, skills and experience

•      Bachelor's degree or equivalent in finance and Investment, or a related field.
•      Strong financial acumen, analytical skills, and proficiency in financial modeling.
•      Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
•      Demonstrated interest and understanding of the organisation's vision, mission, and values.
•      Passion for contributing to positive socioeconomic development, particularly in South Africa.
